A Georgian Getaway At The Retreat At Elcot Park

Contents

The Retreat at Elcot Park is now open, offering everything from delectable dining options to sensual spa experience

At the end of a winding gravel driveway is a Georgian country house with a rich history, now reimagined as The Retreat at Elcot Park, reviving its former splendour with a playful modern twist. Nestled between the historic market towns of Newbury and Hungerford in 16 acres of glorious grounds, The Retreat is already becoming a hit with everyone, from international VIPs to the local community.

All 55 bedrooms – including three breath-taking suites – are named with local connections in mind, from local rivers to famous racehorses. Each is individually designed, making imaginative use of colours, textures and upcycled antiques. For true indulgence, the Signature Suites have standalone baths, from which guests are treated to spectacular views of the grounds and the North Wessex Downs.

The 1772 brasserie

The Retreat boasts two stunning restaurants, both open to non-residents as well as guests. The all-day brasserie is named 1772, after the year the house was built. It’s a vibrant, airy space with a long bar and banquette seating, evoking jazz-era America, and offers an exceptional dinner menu, with breakfast and lunch served in the magnificent Orangery, or on the terrace. For afternoon tea or relaxed drinks, the travel-inspired Atlas Room, with its plush sofas, backgammon boards and imaginative décor offers escapism and relaxation.

At the end of an intriguing petrol blue panelled corridor is Yu, The Retreat’s pan-Asian restaurant, a touch of the exotic in West Berkshire. Guests can indulge in a two-hour dining experience with a mouth-watering taster menu, or choose from a range of sushi and other delectable dishes.

Essential to every country retreat, the Spa includes a heated outdoor infinity pool, an indoor hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, a superb gym, tennis court and mud Rasul. Spa facilities are available to guests and members, while a whole host of treatments – including the area’s only salt flotation chamber – are available to all.

The spa has many different elements of relaxation

In the Courtyard – a lively hub for locals and guests – you’ll find a Hair & Nail Salon, a wine cellar and Signet Stores, a coffee shop and deli, serving hot drinks and other refreshments. You can buy fresh flowers and local honey, and there’s a growing range of gifts. The Courtyard is a unique space, ideal for catching up with friends, refuelling during a bike ride or enjoying a few drinks on a warm summer evening.

Hector Ross, founder of The Signet Collection, comments: “We are thrilled to open the doors of The Retreat at Elcot Park. Our hope is that The Retreat will become a much-loved addition to the area. We look forward to welcoming you this summer!”
